Successful Flight Through Enceladus Plume
Pasadena CA (SPX) Nov 05, 2009
The Cassini spacecraft has weathered the Monday, Nov. 2, flyby of Saturn's moon Enceladus in good health and has been sending images and data of the encounter back to Earth. Cassini had approached Enceladus more closely before, but this passage took the spacecraft on its deepest plunge yet through the heart of the plume shooting out from the south polar region. Scientists are eagerly sifting thr ... read more

Taking The Plunge: Cassini Soars By Enceladus
Pasadena CA (SPX) Nov 02, 2009
After so many close flybys of Enceladus, we're starting to feel as if this little moon of Saturn is an old friend. But during the encounter planned for Nov. 2, 2009, we are going to get up-close and personal. Cassini is going to take its deepest dive yet into the plumes spewing out from the moon's south pole to try to learn more about their composition and density. The spacecraft is going ... more

Robot Armada Might Scale New Worlds
Pasadena CA (SPX) Oct 29, 2009
An armada of robots may one day fly above the mountain tops of Saturn's moon Titan, cross its vast dunes and sail in its liquid lakes. Wolfgang Fink, visiting associate in physics at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena says we are on the brink of a great paradigm shift in planetary exploration, and the next round of robotic explorers will be nothing like what we see today. ... more

NASA Instruments Reveal Water Molecules On Lunar Surface
Pasadena CA (SPX) Oct 26, 2009
NASA scientists have discovered water molecules in the polar regions of the moon. Instruments aboard three separate spacecraft revealed water molecules in amounts that are greater than predicted, but still relatively small. Hydroxyl, a molecule consisting of one oxygen atom and one hydrogen atom, also was found in the lunar soil. The findings were published in Thursday's edition of the journal ... more

ISRO Seeks To Allay Concern Over Security
Bangalore, India (PTI) Oct 22, 2009
Indian Space Research Organisation has said that the arrest of a senior American scientist, who played a key role in the Chandrayaan-1 moon mission, was "no reason for concern" as it had followed all security protocols.
