A Precise Voyage To The Lunar South Pole
Paris, France (ESA) Apr 01, 2010
The south polar region of the Moon, with dark craters and high ridges, is a world away from the relatively smooth terrain visited by Apollo astronauts four decades ago. This rugged moonscape is the target for Europe's next leap into space. The possible deposits of water ice, heavily cratered terrain and long periods of sunlight make the lunar south pole and areas around it extremely interesting for explorers and scientists. It is therefore a prime target for future human missions to the Moon. ... read more

Cassini Data Show Ice And Rock Mixture Inside Titan
Pasadena CA (JPL) Mar 12, 2010
By precisely tracking NASA's Cassini spacecraft on its low swoops over Saturn's moon Titan, scientists have determined the distribution of materials in the moon's interior. The subtle gravitational tugs they measured suggest the interior has been too cold and sluggish to split completely into separate layers of ice and rock. The finding, to be published in the March 12 issue of the journal ... more

Astronauts decry Obama moon decision
London (UPI) Mar 13, 2009
Former NASA astronauts who have been on moon missions told the BBC they are unhappy with U.S. President Barack Obama's decision to delay future such missions. Obama last month canceled NASA's Constellation Moon landings program, approved by former President George W. Bush. Rocket To Go To Moon Under Design
Beijing, China (XNA) Mar 09, 2010
A new heavy-thrust carrier rocket is under scientific research, with the goal of sending astronauts to the moon, scientists said. Although there is no official timetable yet for China's moon landing, scientists are researching a new powerful carrier rocket with a lift-off thrust of 3,000 tons, Liang Xiaohong, vice-president of the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology, told China Daily on Thursday. "The heavy-thrust launcher's lift-off thrust will be three times that of the Long March-5 ... read more
