Chandrayaan-2 Will Try Out New Ideas And TechnologiesBangalore, India (SPX) Sep 08, 2010 Chandrayaan-2, the proposed second Indian mission to moon, would undertake "extremely good" experiments and try out new technologies but accommodating foreign payloads on board does not appear to be a possibility at this stage. The first edition of the moon odyssey had six foreign payloads and five Indian ones on board but heavy orbiter (satellite) and lander weight this time has put constraints on the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in terms of carry-load of instruments. Move Over Caravaggio: Cassini's Light And Dark Moons
Pasadena CA (JPL) Aug 19, 2010NASA's Cassini spacecraft has returned Saturnian moon images from its flyby late last week, revealing light and dark contrasts worthy of chiaroscuro painters like Caravaggio. The flyby on August 13 targeted the geyser moon Enceladus, but also brought Cassini close to two other moons--Tethys and Dione. The raw images include the best ones to date of Penelope crater on the icy moon Tet ... more China's Lunar Twins
Sydney, Australia (SPX) Aug 19, 2010Before the end of 2010, China will have launched its second lunar probe. Chang'e 2 is an orbiting spacecraft that was originally built as a back-up for China's first lunar probe, Chang'e 1, which flew to the moon in 2007. The launch is widely tipped for some time in October. Sending the back-up spacecraft on its own mission makes sense. The spacecraft was already built, and the integrity o ... more Hunter's iJournal Provides iPhone Users A Way To Improve Their Hunting Skills

Raisin' Mountains On Saturn's Moon TitanPasadena CA (JPL) Aug 13, 2010 Saturn's moon Titan ripples with mountains, and scientists have been trying to figure out how they form. The best explanation, it turns out, is that Titan is shrinking as it cools, wrinkling up the moon's surface like a raisin. A new model developed by scientists working with radar data obtained by NASA's Cassini spacecraft shows that differing densities in the outermost layers of Titan can account for the unusual surface behavior. Titan is slowly cooling because it is releasing heat from its orig ... read more |
