"Thailand's commitment to the Artemis Accords will enhance the country's engagement with NASA and the international community," said NASA Administrator Bill Nelson. "By signing the accords, Thailand builds upon an important foundation and shows great leadership for the open, responsible and peaceful exploration of space."
The signing ceremony featured Pakorn Apaphant, Executive Director of Thailand's Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), representing Thailand. Also present were Thailand's Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Supamas Isarabhakdi and U.S. Ambassador to Thailand Robert Godec. NASA Administrator Bill Nelson provided final remarks in a pre-recorded message.
"Thailand will enter the golden age of space exploration in full force," said Apaphant during the ceremony.
Launched in 2020, the Artemis Accords were created by NASA, in cooperation with the U.S. Department of State and seven initial signatories, to promote principles for the peaceful and transparent use of space. Grounded in the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, the Accords also reflect international agreements like the Registration Convention and the Rescue and Return Agreement, emphasizing scientific collaboration and the responsible sharing of data.
On Dec. 11, Austria became the 50th nation to join the Artemis Accords during a ceremony at NASA Headquarters. Thailand's inclusion signals continued momentum, with more nations expected to sign in the coming months.
