Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for an accelerated push in China's space sector, urging aerospace workers to build on their recent achievements and continue advancing the nation's space ambitions. Speaking on Monday at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Xi addressed representatives of space scientists and engineers involved in the Chang'e-6 lunar mission, underscoring the importance of their contributions to the country's scientific and technological self-reliance.

As General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, Xi highlighted that the Chang'e-6 mission exemplifies China's capability in space exploration. The probe, launched on May 3, brought back nearly two kilograms of samples from the moon's far side in June, a historic first for humanity. Xi emphasized that these achievements reflect decades of dedication by China's aerospace sector and contribute to the country's goal of self-sufficiency in science and technology.

"These accomplishments embody the wisdom and hard work of several generations of Chinese aerospace workers," Xi said, adding that the spirit of lunar exploration-marked by "chasing dreams, daring to explore, collaborating to overcome challenges, and achieving win-win cooperation"-should continue to inspire national pride and contribute to the broader goal of building a strong nation.

China's space program has advanced significantly over the past two decades, with a focus on key technologies, innovation, and international collaboration. Xi noted that the Chang'e missions have contributed to humanity's shared knowledge of space, while promoting peaceful cooperation and mutual benefit. China, he said, is committed to improving global governance of outer space and ensuring that space science serves all of humanity.

Xi encouraged continued research into lunar samples, deeper international collaboration, and ongoing pursuit of major space projects to advance China's space capabilities and further contribute to global space exploration.

Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, and Li Xi, all members of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee's Political Bureau, joined Xi in viewing lunar samples and an exhibition on 20 years of achievements in China's lunar exploration program.
