Zooming In On Heat At Baghdad SulcusPasadena CA (JPL) Feb 24, 2010 The right-hand image shows a dramatically improved view of heat radiation from a warm fissure near the south pole of Saturn's icy moon Enceladus. It was obtained by NASA's Cassini spacecraft during its Nov. 21, 2009, flyby of that moon. The fissure, named Baghdad Sulcus, is one of four so-called "tiger stripe" features that emit jets of water vapor and ice particles. The tiger stripe runs from the upper left to the lower right of the image. The infrared map, obtained by Cassini's composite infrare ... read more |

Bangalore, India (PTI) Feb 08, 2010NASA and European Space Agency (ESA) want to be part of Chandrayaan-II, the next Indian mission to Moon, by sending their instruments, ISRO Chairman K Radhakrishnan said here today. Replying to a query whether NASA and ESA have sent proposals to ISRO to be part of Chandrayaan-II, expected in 2012 or 2013, by sending their instruments, Radhakrishnan told reporters, "They are all there actua ... more Moon Exploration is Not Dead
Sydney, Australia (SPX) Feb 02, 2010It's clear by now that America's grand plans for returning astronauts to the Moon have been quashed, at least in the short term. The Constellation program, originally created to land astronauts there by 2020, is no more. But that doesn't mean that astronauts will not return in the future, nor does it mean that lunar exploration will cease in the meantime. NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbite ... more Shuttle Endeavour To Bring Tranquility To ISS
Moscow, Russia (RIA Novosti) Feb 01, 2010Space shuttle Endeavour is to deliver on February 9 a new technological module, Tranquility, to the International Space Station for its U.S. segment, a NASA expert said Friday. Members of the Apollo 11 mission, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, stepped down from the lunar lander onto the moon's Sea of Tranquility on July 20, 1969. Studying Titan's Lakes On EarthMoffett Field CA (SPX) Jan 29, 2010 The recent discovery of lakes on Saturn's moon Titan make it the only other object in the solar system known to have liquid on its surface. However, dipping 179 degrees C (290 degrees F) below freezing, these lakes are definitely not filled with water. "The water is frozen so solid on Titan that you can liken it to silicate rocks on Earth," says Vincent Chevrier of the University of Arkansas. The liquid on Titan is likely a hydrocarbon cocktail of mostly methane and ethane, judging from obse ... read more |
