Sydney (AFP) Sept 28, 2010
Long-lost footage of Neil Armstrong descending the ladder of the Apollo 11 lunar module will be screened in public for the first time in Sydney next week, a prominent astronomer told AFP. The footage runs for a few minutes and is considered to be some of the best footage of the historic 1969 moonwalk, but the film was lost in archives for many years and was badly damaged when found, said John Sarkissian. ARTEMIS - The First Earth-Moon Libration Orbiter
Greenbelt MD (SPX) Sep 16, 2010
In August 1960, NASA launched its first communications satellite, Echo 1. Fifty years later, NASA has achieved another first by placing the ARTEMIS-P1 spacecraft into a unique orbit behind the moon, but not actually orbiting the moon itself. This type of orbit, called an Earth-Moon libration orbit, relies on a precise balancing of the Sun, Earth, and Moon gravity so that a spacecraft can o ... more

Russia To Test Unmanned Lander For Mars Moon Mission
Moscow, Australia (RIA Novosti) Sep 10, 2010
Russian scientists are due to carry out tests of an unmanned lander that will be used in a 2011 mission to Phobos, one of the moons of Mars. The Phobos-Grunt spacecraft will be sent to the surface of Phobos and will then fly back to Earth with soil samples. "The aim of the test is to narrow down the lander's projected impact location on the surface of the Earth," a statement by the Central Aerodynamic Institute said. "As far as the lander...does not include any signaling equipment...na ... read more
